Who draws the atlas, and where the ink stops.

Vertex Vest is an independent editorial project for readers in Canada who are learning the first words of money. The pages are courses and explanations. They are not a financial service, and they are not written as if we knew your circumstances.

Outside the plate

  • No firm. There is no registration, licence, or client book behind these pages, and we do not invent one.
  • No readers as proof. We do not describe customers, results, or assets looked after. There is no such record to describe.
  • No brief. The desk answers the material. It does not review a portfolio or compare products.

Mission

The mission is a map of vocabulary. A beginner should be able to say what a word refers to, where it shows up in public documents, and where an explanation has to stop.

The project stays editorial. It is not a firm, a fund, or a desk that takes mandates. Literacy here means naming. It does not mean being guided toward a holding.

Educational philosophy

We write for someone who can follow a careful paragraph and has not been handed a private jargon. A term is defined before it is used as if it were obvious. Sentences stay concrete.

Learning on this site is reading, comparing definitions, and noticing when two ideas have been collapsed into one word. It is not a simulated portfolio, and it is not a sequence of tasks that ends in a trade.

A cross-section of two limits

Financial information

Description, not a suggestion

A balance sheet, a risk, a market role, or a published figure is explained as a public idea. The explanation is not converted into a suggestion about what any person should buy, sell, or hold.

When a Canadian label matters — a registered account, a dollar measured in CAD, a term as a public explainer uses it — we say the label changes the category. We do not rank the labels.

AI and technology

A subject, not a service

Software, including models that summarise text, is discussed as a reading problem. A model can compress a document and can also drop the definition that made a number meaningful.

We do not offer an automated advisor, a signal, or a tool that proposes a position. If a page mentions a model, it is to show the question a reader should still ask of the summary.

Methodology

A note starts from a question a beginner actually has, then checks the plain answer against public explainers, statistical definitions, and teaching texts. The five notes in the research index are the current result of that habit.

Question
Narrow enough to answer in a definition. “What should I buy” is not a question this method accepts.
Public text
Statistics-agency explainers, regulatory plain-language pages, and teaching texts. Not a private tip and not an unnamed anecdote.
Disagreement
When sources use one word for two ideas, the note says so. It does not smooth the difference into a false certainty.
Diagram
A drawing shows categories — a stock, a flow, a venue, a limit. It is captioned so it cannot be read as a record of returns.

How the project is run and edited

Transparency

Revenue comes from advertising and educational content. The pages are free. We do not receive commissions for recommending investment products, and we do not sell financial products. We do not invent licences or partnerships to make that sentence sound heavier.

The contact details are the same on every page: info@vertexvest.net, +1 416 908 4472, 86 Atlantic Avenue, Toronto, ON M6K 1X9, Canada. A privacy request uses that same desk.

Editorial standards

Notes are attributed to the editorial team of Vertex Vest, not to a named expert with credentials we would have to invent. A date marks when a note was published. Related notes are chosen because the ideas touch, not because one is treated as more popular.

A correction, sent through the contact form, fixes a definition or a public fact. It is not an opening to ask for a personal recommendation.

Risk awareness

Any real-world financial decision can lead to loss. Markets move, liquidity can disappear, and a past description does not determine a later outcome. We repeat that as part of literacy, not as a banner above the title.

Risk awareness here means knowing the words for those possibilities. It does not mean your situation has been assessed. It has not.
